Death of the Prime Minister of Barbados
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of the Prime Minister (PM) of Barbados, the Honorable David J. H. Thompson, QC, M.P. Mr. Thompson died at 2:10 AM on Saturday morning (23rd October) at the age of 48 years after battling pancreatic cancer. He leaves to mourn a wife, three children, mother and father among other family members. In addition his loss is being felt by Barbadians at home and abroad.
Mr. Thompson was the sixth PM since the island became independent in 1966 and the third PM to die in office during the same period. This undesirable development has plunged all of Barbados and Barbadians everywhere into a state of sadness and sorrow. Yet, as we reflect on the life of this dear son of our soil, our hearts are encouraged not only by his life and his achievements but by the dream that he had for our country.
