Cocoa, FL. (January, 2016) SAS Games of Cocoa, FL, makers of the popular online and board game, TiViTz, have launched an online college savings program for kids called the TiViTz College $avings Game-a-thon. The program combines two important trends, crowdfunding and the gamification of education, to provide a way for children to begin saving for their college education as young as six years old.
Much like they would for a walk-a-thon or dance-a-thon, kids participating in the TiViTz College $avings Game-a-thon seek pledges from family, friends and neighbors. But instead of walking or dancing, kids exercise their mental muscles with the award-winning math and strategy game, TiViTz.
"In todays world, people spend three billion hours a week playing computer and video games," said Siobhan Mullen, CEO of SAS Games. "Education gaming has become more acceptable, because its seen as a way for children to take a more active role in learning. And these days, when people think about raising money for a project, crowdfunding has become the way they get it done. For students and families who want to save for college tuition, I believe the solution is to base crowdfunding dollars on achievement in educational games. The student earns and learns at the same time...that is the key behind gamified crowdfunding for college."
Steve Scully, the game's creator said, "An 'Epic Win' is a term used in the gaming world to describe a win so huge you had no idea it was possible until you achieve it. We think the TiViTz college savings program is an 'Epic Win' for kids who want to get to college. It will help them and their families begin to plan for something they might not otherwise feel is possible."
For students who participate this year, to date there are over $30,000 in matching pledges from companies who want to encourage children to improve their math skills and go to college. Matches are automatically awarded to the kids who reach each sponsor's requirements first.
Signing up for the program is an easy, three-step process for parents and kids. Once the student is signed up they can personalize their pledge page and begin playing games. After the required games are completed, pledges are automatically triggered, letting friends and family know its time to pay their pledge funds online. Parents and kids can track the pledge requests on their personalized TiViTz College $avings Game-a-thon dashboard. Funds can go into a 529 college savings plan, another type of college savings plan or into a regular savings account.
The TiViTz College $avings Game-a-thon runs through March 31st. Kids and parents can sign up at any time online for free, and they can play games through the end of March to earn pledges.
