Local Entrepreneur Goes National
Tampa, Florida Local entrepreneur, Debra Weisser, has reason to be excited. The product she invented, Hem-Eze, is now being sold nationally in TJ Maxx stores. TJ Maxx is a perfect fit; they cater to the Hem-Eze buyer. The initial order will highlight Hem-Eze in more than 300 of the chain's stores.
In case you don’t know about Hem-Eze, Ms. Weiser invented this new product in 2009. Working out of her home in Tampa, she began a relentless pursuit of retailers and wholesalers who could carry this new product. She had a bold approach and did her research before calling on a prospect. She had a written business plan and was going after jeans' retailers such as “Boogies” in Aspen. She and her husband, Ron Weisser own High Aspen Ranch in Colorado. Boogie said he would try the product and see how his customers liked it. That was almost two years ago. “It was an overwhelming success for all ages of his customers from teens to “more mature’ women”, he bragged. His orders kept coming in and Debra, the inspired entrepreneur continued to make personal visits to his store to check on the status of the merchandise.
Sometimes Debra would work one retailer at a time but often she would simultaneously be calling on big box retailers such as Wal-mart, Target, Michael’s, Bed Bath and Beyond, and others. She knew her persistence would pay off because the users of Hem-Eze “got it”. Everyone she talked to loves the product and told her stories of just how Hem-Eze had saved them with a special outfit for a special occasion.
Debra does not sew nor do most people in this generation. She invented Hem-Eze out of necessity; she needed a convenient, quick, and easy way to put a temporary hem on a pair of pants. Most of her clients tell her that in this fast-paced world, sewing just does not fit in. “Great” said Ms. Weisser, “you don’t have to sew to use this product. Flexibility and versatility, that’s what today’s women and young women want”.
Ms. Weisser expanded her operation and now has a fulfillment companies based in Tampa and Clearwater that fill orders immediately. She personally tracts each order and contacts the company to add that personal touch.
Hem-Eze has been featured on the Today Show with Bobbie Thomas and on the NBC 15 Morning Show "Hot Trends". Hem-Eze was also selected by RealSimple.Com magazine as one of their six “Problem Solvers”. Real Simple.com says, “End the battle between keeping your pants long to wear heels and short to wear with flats. Place Hem-Eze double-sided tape on the inside of each pant bottom. Then, when the occasion calls for stilettos, remove the tape and release the hem."
