With pottery classes, a retail gallery, and open studio opportunities for people to come and create with clay, Potter Zane Kuhle is bringing his love of clay to the local community.
Palm Harbor, FL September 3rd, 2010 –
It all started 20 years ago as Potter Zane Kuhle sat in his booth at a local Palm Harbor Art Show. He felt strongly that the old “Downtown” area would be a nice home for a pottery studio as the area had the right mix of community and art to support it. All those years passed, and after working out of a home studio for many of those years, he was finally able to bring his vision to fruition.
Zane had stopped potting for a few years to be more involved with his children. A few years ago he realized something was missing in his life, and that making pottery and teaching again was the solution. Looking at the North Pinellas County area, he noticed that there were few options to find studio space. He discovered the St. Petersburg Clay Company, and although on the other end of the county, it was the environment he needed to get back to making pots.
His passion for throwing and teaching were re-ignited, and about a year ago he began putting together the plan for opening a local studio that would offer wet clay classes as well as a place where people could come and work out of on their own. A year of searching later, he found the perfect little place in old “Downtown Palm Harbor”
“I couldn’t believe my luck, many years ago I had been set up literally right in front of where my studio is for an art show. Tell me that’s not Karma”.
The shop is a working studio and retail gallery. The studio offers classes for all skill levels in both Wheel Throwing and Hand Building. Classes are available in both day and evenings for ages 8 and up.
Various workshops with guest instructors will be held throughout the year and there are plans for Raku workshops beginning in late October.
Palm Harbor Pottery is having a Grand Opening Celebration on Friday Oct. 8th from 7pm to 9pm. There will be various throwing demos through out both Friday and Saturday.
Palm Harbor Pottery can be found at 1250 Florida Ave. in old “Downtown Palm Harbor”
